General Assembly - March 2025

 We look forward to seeing delegates and alternates at the General Assembly!

SEMCOG’s General Assembly provides opportunities for all elected officials from member communities - along with other regional stakeholders - to network and share best practices on a regional level. The General Assembly provides input and takes action on SEMCOG's major regional plans. Only the delegate or alternate appointed by member institutions’ governing bodies, can vote on SEMCOG action items. The General Assembly meets three times a year at locations throughout the region.

  • 1:15 p.m.: New General Assembly Delegate/Alternate Orientation
  • 1:45 p.m.: Executive Committee Elections: Education
    Education bloc members have received a separate invitation and registration link for the election of representatives to SEMCOG’s Executive Committee.
  • 1:50 p.m.: Michigan Central Station Tour #2 Thank you for your interest. Please note that the tour has reached capacity.
  • 2:30 p.m.: Business Meeting

    Event Overview

    SEMCOG’s March General Assembly will spotlight significant regional and national economic development projects and foster meaningful discussion on regional cooperation and innovation. The Business Meeting will feature presentations from Heather Grondin, Chief Relations Officer, Windsor Detroit Bridge Authority, and Colin Bird, Consul General of Canada in Detroit, United States, on the economic and transportation impacts of the Gordie Howe International Bridge project. Attendees will then hear from a panel of regional experts on major redevelopment projects and innovative repurposing of buildings and land, including: the Northville Downs redevelopment and daylighting of the Rouge River; office to commercial conversions and major economic development projects in the City of Troy; and the transformation of Lakeside Mall into the dynamic mixed-use Lakeside City Center in Sterling Heights.

    After adjournment, attendees are invited to stay for a Networking Reception, taking in the sights of a newly-renovated Michigan Central Station while networking with SEMCOG staff, event sponsors, and local leaders from across Southeast Michigan.

    Parking Information

    Please park in the nearby Bagley Mobility Hub/LAZ Parking Garage (1501 Wabash St, Detroit, MI 48216). When entering the parking garage, attendees should:

    1. Select "Other access options" on the kiosk, then choose "I have an access code."
    2. Enter the 4-digit access code: 1234
    3. Take the validated ticket, which should be scanned when exiting the parking garage.

    Attendees are encouraged to wear comfortable, weather-appropriate shoes for the five-minute walk from the parking garage to Michigan Central Station. A shuttle will be available for those requiring a ride from the parking garage.
